Twenty-two homeless male veterans have entered into the year round emergency shelter at LINK during the last eight months. The men range in age, some coming to us from Afghanistan, Iraq, and some from the Vietnam era.
Our fundraiser today is for $15,000 to raise funds for five medication distribution machines. The machines automatically dispense medications at specific times during the day and reduce medication error and provide reminders for our veterans to take their medications. The machines are filled by Med certified staff.
We are also challenged by lack of funds to provide our veterans the opportunities for outings to re-socialize and establish relationships with others outside the Veterans Administration. Outings such as bowling, movies, fishing, pool nights, concerts, virtual schooling via computers or other basic educational opportunities, all encourage and help re-build self esteem.
We also provide a driver/outreach person who is responsible for transportation and who assists us in outreach to the 166 homeless veteran's identified from November 2017 through March 2018 who took refuge at our PORT Winter Shelter & HELP's A Night's Welcome Shelter.
Your donation today will also go towards these opportunities for outings and day-to-day operations of our Veteran Housing Program!
Please help to support our veterans and help us to get them back on their feet!
